Big is clearing the air … kind of. Chris Noth recently caused a stir online after he seemingly shaded his former Sex and the City costar Sarah Jessica Parker. Now, he’s hoping that the chatter surrounding his “off the cuff” remark subsides.
“My off the cuff slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot,” Noth wrote in an Instagram caption on Wednesday. “It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion. It is a waste of time in a world where there are more important things to worry about.”
Noth drew attention from Parker’s fans on Jan. 9, when he shared a photo of himself working out on Instagram, alongside the caption, “F&@k new years - LETS GO!!!!” One fan commented below Noth’s post, “You mean f**k sjp & her award right? lol” to which Noth replied, “Right.”
Noth’s Instagram post came three days after Parker was given the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award, which honors significant achievements in television, during the Golden Eve primetime special on Jan. 6.
Noth famously starred on Sex and the City as Mr. Big, longtime love of Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw. The beloved HBO series and pop culture touchstone ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004, before spawning two films, a prequel series starring AnnaSophia Robb and Austin Butler, and the divisive revival series, And Just Like That….
Noth, however, only appears in the first episode of And Just Like That…. In a dramatic twist, Mr. Big suffers a fatal heart attack after a Peloton class goes wrong, which sets Carrie on a journey of self-discovery.
Despite initially planning to return in the show’s Season 1 finale, Noth’s scene was cut after he became embroiled in sexual assault allegations in late 2021. The scrapped scene had reportedly already been filmed in Paris when the allegations against Noth surfaced. The two women who accused Noth of sexual assault alleged that the incidents occurred in 2004 and 2015. Noth, however, has maintained that his actions were consensual.
“The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false,” Noth previously told Yahoo in a statement. “These stories could've been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual. It's difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don't know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women.”
While chatting with the Hollywood Reporter in 2022, Parker revealed that she hadn’t spoken to Noth since learning about the allegations.
“I don’t even know if I’m ready to talk about it, but I don’t think … I wasn’t reacting as a producer,” she told the outlet. Parker was an executive producer of And Just Like That….
Noth’s fans have flooded his latest Instagram post with support. Several comments appear to be reiterating The Equalizer actor’s sentiment to focus on “more important things.”
“I saw it on social media earlier and I was like why is everyone making such a hype over this when there are so many serious things happening in the world!!” one fan commented, while another added, “You have a legion of people who support you.”
Parker, meanwhile, seems unbothered by the discourse. The Carol Burnett Award recipient celebrated her career milestone on Instagram, where she posted photos of herself at the Golden Eve event.
